8th Ipswich Guides celebrate 100 years!

8th Ipswich Guides were 100 years old in 2017.  The Guide unit was started in July 1917 and has met in Ipswich town centre since, first at Turret Green Baptist church and now at Christ Church, Tacket Street.  Along with this, the current Guide Guider (Ruth Strudwick) has been a Guider at 8th Ipswich Guides for 25 years!

A 100th Birthday party was held in October to celebrate and Guides and Leaders past and present were invited.  They had a special cake and the Guides designed a badge (there are still some left if anyone would like to purchase one).  The Guides organised some games and stalls for guests and they also had a Guide archive display from the Suffolk Archivists.  They had photographs to look at and enjoyed meeting up with old Guiding friends.  The County commissioner Tricia Hale spoke and they also invited one of the oldest previous Guides from the unit, Joan Cross, to speak about what it was like to be a Guide in the 1940s.  After a short speech from Ruth Strudwick, they took photos and enjoyed the cake!
